A silver medal for Benedetta Baroni at the Internationals of Catania

The penultimate contest of the Grand Prix, held in Catania on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June, ends wonderfully for the two athletes of brothers Famà, Gloria Giacomucci and Benedetta Baroni. A heavy silver has been conquered by the young, but promising Benedetta who, thanks to this important result, climbed the top of the national ranking in the 48 kg category and placed herself in 12th place. And thanks to the young Benedetta, the association of Spello succeeded also in placing itself in sixth position in the final ranking. Excellent ninth place, however, for Gloria in the cadets category, 57 kg, who - despite his youth - always shows her incredible determination, although, sometimes, because of his excessive exuberance, suffers setbacks in meetings in which she has a clear advantage. A praise for the trip goes to the accompanist, Cristiano Damiani, and to the excellent technician Giannicola Casale, olympic athlete and fifth classified at the world championships. Closed the first semester of this agonistic season, the preparation continued with the participation in the training camp in Norcia of a large delegation of Spello: Alessio Cecera, Michael and Daniele Sciabola (from X2 Spoleto), Giacomo Benedetti, Matteo Murasecco, Fabio Napolitano, Gloria Giacomucci, Benedetta and Maddalena Baroni, Michael Balzana, Binucci Alessandro, Luca Giulietti, Massimo Mancini Filippo Battistoni. Interesting event, that of Cascia, where athletes of the Italian, German and Greek national teams, as well as prominent athletes of the national Army, Police Forces, famous Clubs of Lazio and others, have confronted with our boys, who by themselves have performed well. This initiative was promoted and wanted by the components of the judo sector of the regional committee, Leonardo Perini, Giuseppe Famà and Stefano Poeta. We hope that this initiative will be revived in the coming years, in the beautiful setting of the green Umbrian town.

A Gold medail for Michael Balzana in the 7th edition of the National Trophy of Osimo

Excellent performance of the samurais of Spello in the 7th edition of the national judo trophy, that took place on Saturday 6th, and Sunday 7th June at the sports hall of Osimo. An amazing gold for Michael Balzana, which has demonstrated once again its full potential, despite the previous unconstant preparation has conditioned its performance: in the first round he has defeated with an ippon technique the new italian university champion Andrenelli, a great athlete from Rome. Nothing to do also for the next two opponents who have unsuccessfully tried to block his way to the top step of the podium: two spectacular techniques, valued ippon, have given to Micheal the precious gold metal. A Gold medal also for a promising young judoka, Tiziano Meniconi, who has won another medal, after having conquered a place on the podium in all the last competitions of this year. A silver medal for Benedetta Baroni and Samuele Bagaglia, that have distinguished themselves again in a very important competition; third place for Christian Turrini and Maddalena Baroni, who have managed to reach the podium thanks to a contest conducted with a great determination. Instead, Fabio Napoletano, Luca Giulietti, Patryk Stojecki and Jorge Mosuqera Ruiz weren’t able to get on the podium, despite the commitment and the tenacity that they have shown in every meeting. Still to mention , the gold medal won by Alessio Cecera, the bronze one won by Marco Stocchi and the two fifth places of Matteo Murasecco and Carlo Kallcista, who defended the colors of Umbria. Finally, Michele Sciabola from the Society X2 of Spoleto, coached by Leonardo Perini, who has distinguished himselfed taking home a great bronze medal.

The Umbrian Judo to the fore at the Italian Cup of Crotone

A bitter Silver medal for Filippo Battistoni at the national finals of the Italian Cup, held on Saturday May 30th in Crotone. Filippo passed the first round without fighting, being N. 3 in the national ranking, he easily passed the second meeting against the Sicilian athlete Verdimari, several times medalist in the Italian championships, beating him with a superb ippon. At the third meeting, entry ticket for the access to the final, he fighted once again against the strong athlete of Genova, D'Apice: a one-way fight for Filippo, that ended before the end of the fight with a spectacular technique. In the final meeting,to get on the top step of the Podium, he had to face the roman athlete Valerio Menale, asbolute second place in Italy. Filippo, in great shape, dominated the Roman Menale; then, after an amazing technique, valued waza-ari, he blocked the opponent down on the floor until a few seconds before the end of the meeting, but in the end, in a totally unexpected way, the situation has been reversed and Filippo was immobilized by Menale, who stole him the first place on the Podium. Despair and disbelief among the ranks of the Club of Spello and a surprise ending that, however, does not obscure the good performance of Filippo, who - after the university national title won in Salsomaggiore on Saturday, May 23rd - has shown to have the potential and the technique to get great results. Good also the performance of Binucci, returning to important competitions after a knee surgery of two months ago: he has fighted like a lion and beated two strong judokas, with two beautiful ippon techniques: at the third fight, an unforgivable mistake and three liabilities that allowed him to reach only the twelfth place. The absolutes are in December and Alessandro, for that appointment, will be in great shape to do well. Not so good the performance of Cristiano Turrini who, at the first fight, in a class higher than his, had to face the plurimedalists Diego Frustaci of the Banzai Cortina Rome. Instead, interesting the competitions of Michael Balzana and Jorge Mosquera, showing a fighting spirit and a great commitment, proving to be strong opponents; nothing to do for Benedetta Baroni, too young and inexperienced for a high-level Italian Cup. Satisfaction, therefore, for the brothers Giulio and Giuseppe Famà and all the association of Spello. However, an Italian Cup to remember for Umbria, that of Crotone, thanks to the silver medail of Matteo Lascialfari of Umbertide, trained by Mirco Diarena, and to the fifth place of Daniele Sciabola, of the company of Spoleto X2 of the vice president Leonardo Perini. The return to the competition of Daniele has galvanized the whole umbrian expedition: the powerful and fast Ura-Nage against the vice-champion of Italy is one of those ippons to be framed and that will be remembered for a long time.

23rd International Tournament Yamashita Giano dell’Umbria

The second leg of the Grand Prix, held in Umbria, on Saturday, March 14th, gave a smile to the giant of Spello: Filippo Battistoni got on the lowest step of the podium, a result which has projected him on the top of the national ranking. The bronze medal of Filippo, coached by brothers Famà, is the only that has been won by the Umbrian athletes in the male category of the 23rd International Tournament Yamashita Giano dell’ Umbria, in the over 100 kg category. In this difficult and prestigious competition, there were two medalists of the Italian Championship. Battistoni passed the first round without fighting and in the second round he imposed with a spectacular technique, evaluated ippon. In the semifinals he faced the athlete Menale of Rome, vice Italian champion, in an open meeting full of surprises: the Umbrian, leading the meeting by waza-ari until 10 seconds before the end, got caught by a technique evaluated waza-ari and lost the match by a trivial passivity. A missed opportunity, but in the end part of the small final he didn’t let go and, with conviction and determination, he ended the meeting with a projection of applauses. Finally, after so many disappointments, a performance that highlights the physical and technical skills of an athlete constantly on the top of the national ranking. Excellent performance of Alessandro Binucci in the category 81 kg, who gained a fifth place, with four matches won and two lost: a result that does not reward, as it should, the effort and performance of the athlete, but Judo unfortunately is unpredictable and full of surprises. In total, the team of Spello has performed well, and Luca Giulietti, Michael Balzana, Michele Damiani, Patryk Stojecki, Lenin and Jorge Mosquera showed a great growth and improvement that bode well for the future. Even the youth, stands out with the superb bronze medal of Charles Kallcishta, that in the 50 kg category Cadets, obtains an important result: red light, instead, for Gloria Giacomucci and Fabio Napolitano. Important, finally, the great performance of Massimo Mancini in the team competition held in Siena Sunday, March 15. The athlete of Spello, deployed among the ranks of the Italian national junior, put in serious difficulty the athlete of the Hungarian national, former European silver. In total, a positive weekend for the association of Spello.
